MARLENKA CAFÉ

MARLENKA CAFÉ

300 hundred years ago an Armenian Deodat arrived to Prague and founded first Armenian coffee lounge which is even mentioned in Rieger encyclopedia (1862, 2nd edition).

"Prague's first café keeper, born in Damascus, to parents of Armenian-Christian faith, initially walked the streets of Prague clad
in Arabian, i.e. Turkish, vesture, holding a plank with a mug of boiled coffee on his head and carrying a pan with hot coal in the right hand and a box containing several buttons and some fine-grained sugar
in the left hand. He was so good at selling, that he soon earned
a burgess-ship and rented a spacious shop in the Old Town. He converted the said shop into Prague's first bona-fide café, at the corner of Liliová and Jesuitská streets, at No. 181 (called "u Kornovů  ", or "The Golden Snake's")".

We continue in our traditon and introducing now new coffee  Marlenka  and also its traditional preparation of Armenian coffee in hot sand - jazzve.

climatic and geographic conditions in Brazil and Guatemala. Thanks to the weather, altitude, soil type and soil richness

The Difference between Arabica and Robusta Coffee Beans
There are two main species of coffee cultivated today.  Coffea arabica, known as Arabica coffee, accounts for 75-80

percent of the world's production and Coffea canephora, known as Robusta coffee which accounts for about

 20 percent.

Arabica contains less caffeine than any other commercially cultivated species of coffee and Arabica beans produce

a superior taste in the cup, being more flavourful and complex than their Robusta counterparts. Robusta beans tend

to produce an inferior tasting beverage which is more bitter and with a higher caffeine content.

Coffea arabica takes about seven years to mature fully. The plant can tolerate low temperatures, but not frost,

and it does best when the temperature hovers around 20 °C. The plants are vulnerable to damage in poor conditions

and are also more vulnerable to pests than the Robusta plant.  Robusta coffee is grown at much lower

altitudes (sea level-3000 feet) and it is much more tolerant to warm conditions than Arabica coffee.
