Vodafone Company of the Year 2016 and Responsible Company of the Year 2016 in Moravian-Silesian Region
25. October 2016 | MARLENKA International is the Vodafone Company of the Year
and Responsible Company of the Year 2016 in the Moravian-Silesian Region.
MARLENKA – cakes with a story and family tradition
MARLENKA has been on the market since 2003 and the main motivation of its founder Gevorg Avetisyan was to ensure a job for his sister. “We started baking traditional Armenian honey cakes at home, and I tried offering them to local cafés and sweet shops,” said Avetisyan about the early days of his business. The main things in which their products differ from competitors’ produce include the exceptional quality of production, unique recipes, and ingredients of the highest quality. “All our products are made without preservatives and synthetic colorants,” said Avetisyan. Thanks to the original recipes, unique production process and quality ingredients their products have an exceptionally long shelf life. “This is most unusual among cakes. It allows us to regularly export our products to 40 countries of the world,” added Avetisyan. The plan for the future is to further extend the range of honey cakes with new products and reach new markets while enhancing the existing ones. “At the moment we are working on developing honey ice cream. And we will continue hiring – we plan to employ up to 350 people by 2019,” explained Avetisyan.
“This family company has an unbelievable story behind it and it is a genuine pride of Moravia-Silesia, as it fantastically represents the region in our country as well as abroad. This is exactly the kind of companies we need,” commented on the winner Kamil Homola, jury member from Vodafone Czech Republic.
Every region awards also the Vodafone Responsible Company of the Year 2016. The award is presented by Vodafone Czech Republic in collaboration with Vodafone Foundation. In Ostrava region this award went to MARLENKA International, which produces honey cakes following traditional Armenian recipes passed down in the family. Receiving its second award, the company was a total winner of the evening. “It is remarkable how quickly the company managed to find its customers while preserving the family character and maintaining minimum workforce fluctuation thanks to their system of employee care and benefits. The company significantly supports its region and keeps seeking new opportunities to develop their craft and educate young people. Protection of the environment is a part of the company’s everyday routine,” said Kamil Homola from Vodafone Czech Republic in reasoning of the jury’s decision.
