History

Armenia
The roots of our art go back hundreds of years. Even back then, Armenia was home to delicious desserts such as Pachlava or Honey Cake. Their recipes, passed from one generation to another, have survived to this day.

Shop in Constantinople
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the great-grandfather of the founder of Marlenka ran a factory and shop in Constantinople, Turkey, and his delicacies were renowned throughout the area.

Birth of a legend
Shortly after moving to the heart of Europe, Mr Gevorg Avetisjan and his sister started baking honey cakes according to an ancient family recipe. In Armenia, they used to call it the Miracle from Honey; in his new homeland, Mr Avetisjan named it Marlenka after his daughter.

First establishment
After our founding, we soon moved from an ordinary flat to our first official establishment. Production expanded rapidly, and the number of employees grew. Our first location on Těšínská Street in Frýdek-Místek served us for three years.

Second establishment
When we outgrew our original site, we relocated to new premises in Na Aleji Street. We completely renovated the building and hired 60 more people.

Construction of new premises
In a few years, however, the new building’s production capacity couldn’t keep up either. In 2008, we laid the foundation stone for our new production facility on the outskirts of Frýdek-Místek. The factory was completed in 2009 and serves as our headquarters to this day. The investment, worth CZK 300 million, included a unique, fully automated honey cake production line.

Honey nuggets
The second most popular product in our range has been made since 2010. It is closely related to our honey cakes and currently exists in seven flavours and one gluten-free version

New logo
In 2010, the company’s logo was overhauled. To the original MARLENKA inscription, we added an iconic seal bearing an image of the founder’s daughter.

Napoleonky
We started making Napoleonky in 2013; today, they come in three variants. The recipe also has its origin in traditional family recipes of the Avetisjan family.

Opening of the Visitor Centre
In 2014, our company headquarters underwent its first major transformation. We added a two-floor production hall with a viewing corridor and expanded the administrative part of the building, which also created space for our Visitor Centre.

Product innovation and more products: snacks, rolls, gluten-free products, eclairs
We continued to modernise our operation and expand our product range. This allowed us to introduce onto the market Honey Snacks, Rolls and the world-famous Eclairs.

Opening of the new Visitor Centre, company shop and café
At the turn of 2020 and 2021, our company’s headquarters underwent the most recent stage of its modernisation. This led to the opening of our new Visitor Centre, now with its own café and the first original Marlenka shop.

Purchase of the former Lemberger factory and start of preparations for the construction of Marlenka II
In 2023, we celebrated our company’s 20th anniversary and decided to give ourselves a wonderful gift. We purchased the former Lemberger textile factory. We have big plans for it – we will build new production capacities and renovate the historical administrative building, where we will have a Marlenka museum, a stylish café and, of course, a shop.

Opening of the Marlenka Forest Park
In 2020, our company bought the adjacent wooded valley and started transforming it into a forest park open to the general public and the guests of our Visitor Centre. The Marlenka Forest Park has been designed as a relaxing place that invites people to rest and to walk in a beautiful natural environment.

Company redesign
This year, the graphic face of the Marlenka brand is undergoing its most significant change in a decade. After extensive and systematic preparations, we have developed and fine-tuned a completely new design concept that will soon be introduced in all the countries where we operate.
