MARLENKA is the Company of the Year in the MS Region!

We have won another award in the 2023 PwC Company of the Year competition.
At the awards ceremony for the 2023 PwC Company of the Year competition on 18 October 2023, we won two prizes: first place in the categories Company of the Year 2023 in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Most Economically Successful Company of the Year 2023 in the Moravian-Silesian Region.
Quote from the official website of the competition:
“The winning company MARLENKA International is a confectionery business that makes cakes and pastries. The story of the MARLENKA honey cake starts in 1995 when Gevorg Avetisjan and his family arrived to the Czech Republic from war-weakened Armenia. One day he got an idea. He asked his sister to bake a honey cake from their family recipe. He took the result to his friend’s café. In the evening, the friend called to say: “Bake me another one, it’s already gone. Actually, bake more of them.” In just two months, his sister’s home baking could no longer keep up with the demand for their homemade recipe. In 2009, the company celebrated the opening of a brand new, high-capacity production hall with a unique, fully automated production line. It’s eighty metres long and can produce a thousand honey cakes in several new variants in an hour. But just three years later, the capacity of this investment worth CZK 340 million couldn’t keep up, either. And so the company keeps expanding. Today, it produces more than nine million products a year, which it exports to 52 countries. “Marlenka also produces high-end decorated cakes and special custom cakes. We even made one to celebrate the 90th birthday of the British Queen Elizabeth II,” said the owner Gevorg Avetisjan.
“It’s a story of an immigrant and his sister who started from absolutely nothing. He managed to build an incredible company of at least European importance that exports to more than 50 countries. They treat their employees incredibly well. They’re currently planning to rebuild an old factory, which also has a social dimension: to put it simply, they also care about their community. Their business story also shows how social mobility can work in the Czech Republic. They’re not living the American dream, but the Czech dream,” said Igor Wotke from PwC Czech Republic, explaining the jury’s decision.
We are very pleased by this recognition and consider it an obligation to continue developing our honey legend.
